The Music Institute of Chicago Musical Theater mission:

  • Develop young talent
  • Put a fresh spin on classic musicals
  • Create original musicals that celebrate the strengths of each ensemble

What’s different about Musical Theater at MIC?

  • Musical Theater productions at MIC feature the entire ensemble - with principal roles and solos shared among the cast, challenging young artists to play multiple roles.

  • Working on pieces from start to finish allows students to understand how to make theater not just perform it.

  • MIC’s Musical Theater program goes beyond laying a strong foundation in performance technique.  Students are active participants in creating new work, re-imagining classic favorites, and producing shows that reflect their interests, talents, and unique personalities. Being central to the creative process gives students pride of ownership in the work, builds confidence and sets the stage for making life-long friends with fellow cast members.
